    Some points I’ve taken away from this session:

    * Standardising data is important, using unique references (eg company registration numbers etc) to compensate for variables/human error in non-standard elements (eg company name)

    * The Guardian’s UK expenses project (http://mps-expenses.guardian.co.uk/) had high traffic and involvement while it was a big news story, but that has tailed off to nearly zero. Galaxy Zoo (http://www.galaxyzoo.org) has been more of a slow burn, building involvement and (significantly) a vibrant community.

    * Fun, game-like ways of analysing data can work eg Old Weather (www.oldweather.org) with a ‘ship’s crew’ or how Google Images created a game around adding descriptive tags to images.
