Mobile Fundraising
- No overlap with credit card over phone
- Varied cuts from different providers
- Various shortcodes for charities: costs??
- shared: £100s
- own: £1000s
- SMS to phone call
- Text to donate – only got very small amount – in part due to percentage cut
- Need to give something back in return – Can you offer exclusive content
- People are reluctant to give mobile number
- By law must say: “To opt out text STOP to xxx”
- Fear of security — don’t know how much they’re really giving…must make explicitly clear that you are not subscribing
- Take action by SMS – 25 cents — and it works, like footbal score subscriptions, 2 messages every 2 weeks
- Telephone operator – if nothing else works is last resort – donate by text? Big success…
- Twitter/SMS – 140 characters
- Discussion about whether you can text a number in public domain and encourage others to do the same
- Use of text to geet presence on big screen – use at festivals and big gigs
- Example at concerts – not success — sign up by SMS – cost of running compared to acquisition is v.high. Was cheaper to send people out with netbookss to get emails.
- People’s interest in bulk SMS as an organising tool? Just didn’t take off…due to lack of respondability…you are responding to a machine.
- Specific aim – send this SMS and trigger something. Good for that…
- Non-tradtional markets? India – SMS doesn’t work. Afghanistan – Oxfam ring up and leave message to go towards a conference. Voice messaging could work better in Afghanistan.
- When you text what data can you get? A. Most accurate data is a mobile number – then follow up with name and postcode request…
